Originally from Derry, Ireland, Leo O’Donnell studied Design Illustration at the University of Plymouth, where he first developed a deep connection with relief printmaking. Since graduating in 2009, he has worked freelance and exhibited regularly. For the last ten years, he has lived in Sóller, where the surrounding landscape has become central to his artistic practice.

An enthusiastic hiker, Leo often begins with drawings made directly from the landscape during walks through the Tramuntana. These sketches are later transformed in his studio through the physical and intuitive process of linocut. Each image is carved by hand into lino and printed entirely by hand on Kitakata, a handmade Japanese paper known for its warmth, delicacy, and strength. The resulting works capture both the immediacy of outdoor sketching and the slow, tactile nature of printmaking.
